- Prioritize. You should go to practice when it is scheduled. But when you go home, school work should be the most important thing.
- Realize that you are still an athlete, and to do well, you must also practice on your own.
- Eat healthy. Eat a good breakfast that contains foods from all the food groups so you have a good balance of vitamins. For snacks, you should avoid junk food, and instead snack on fruits and vegetables.
- Do your homework. This goes back to your student half of the job. If you don't do your homework, your grades will suffer, you may get detention and miss practice, and if you miss practice because of detention, you will be punished.
- Get 7-10 hours of sleep. Do not party every night. A couple Friday nights are OK, but don't over do it.
- Don't drink, smoke, or do drugs. This should go without saying.
- Work harder than anyone on the practice field, and both on the field/court and in class, ask questions if you don't understand something.
- Be ready to work.
- Practice is not supposed to be fun. Games are supposed to be fun when you are kicking the crap out of your rival, especially when it is in high school, playing under the lights.
- Don't play just because the hot girl in your grade is a cheerleader. Play because you want to win.
